We left Berkeley Springs via 522 and headed to Capon Springs resort. Capon Springs feels like a secret destination. You’ve probably never heard of it. They rely mostly on word of mouth advertising and pride themselves on the same families returning year after year. There aren’t big billboards or even many directional signs pointing the way. You could easily drive right past without ever know what’s hiding in the woods here. But it’s kind of magical. Staying here feels like part summer camp/part all inclusive.

There are art classes, a small pond, golf, and a spa. But, the main attraction here is the food. All meals are included in your room price and everything seems to be made from scratch, even hot dog buns at the campfire. Oh my-the bread! I dream of that bread. I would literally stay here again just for the homemade bread. Play board games, read a book, just relax. They make it easy.
If it’s a weekend, peel yourself from a rocking chair at Capon Springs to get a little country nightlife at Bluegrass in the Barn located at Capon Crossing Farm. Once a month, on a Saturday night, Bud‘s Collective performs in a Pinterest-worthy barn on a grass-fed beef farm. Let me say, if you aren’t a bluegrass fan- go anyway. They are impressive. They are passionate, raw talent- impressive. It’s a good time. for directions and dates
When you are ready to move on, take 29 into Wardensville, WV. Wardensville has changed a lot in the past five years. It has been a long time destination for hunters and fisherman. But recently, Wardensville and neighboring Lost River, WV have become a great place to escape the city for a long lazy weekend. Trendy shops are popping up and it’s worth stopping to check them out on your way through town. My favorite is Lost River Trading Post. They are located at 295 East main street Wardensville, WV.
But, you’ll know you’ve arrived when you see the giant red cow dressed like a cowboy outside. They specialize in local and American made products. You can buy coffee, craft beer, antiques, art, and even weird taxidermy here. It’s a great place to stretch your legs and wander around looking at the beautiful and unique items.
